Zoos make for uncomfortable photography on several levels — the ethics of captivity aside, the glass, the fences, and the artificial light all conspire against you. A long lens helps. Patience helps more.

These are portraits made with a 70-300mm on the Canon 6D Mark II. The aim was the same as any portrait: to find the moment when the subject looks like itself.
