I started shooting on film in the mid-1980s. I have never stopped. In forty years I have shot more rolls than I can count, developed most of them myself, and written over three hundred essays about what I saw through the viewfinder and what it taught me.
If you are trying to learn film photography — or trying to get better at it — I can save you a few years of expensive mistakes and point you toward the things that actually matter. The technical stuff is the easy part. What takes longer is learning to see.
If you want to stick to digital, we can, and I will adapt accordingly. But I will tell you about film and how wonderful it is.
“I am not trying to teach you my way of working. I am trying to help you find yours.”
What we work on
Sessions are tailored to where you are and what you are stuck on. Topics I work through regularly:
- Camera choice and set-up
- Exposure and metering on film
- Pushing and pulling — when and why
- Home development (Fomadon R09 at the moment)
- 35mm and medium format
- Flatbed and dedicated scanning
- Building a consistent practice
- Writing about your own photographs
- Editing and sequencing a body of work
- Street, documentary, and portrait work on film
Sessions and pricing
Single session — 75 €
90 minutes · Video call
One focused conversation on whatever you most need help with right now. Come with a specific question, a roll of negs to look at, or a problem you have been stuck on. We will work through it together.
Book at least 48 hours ahead. Reschedulable with 24 hours’ notice.
Monthly programme — 199 €
3 x 90-minute calls · Email between sessions
Three sessions over four weeks, with email support in between. Best for photographers who want to build a real practice, not just fix one thing. We set a direction at the start and track it over the month.
Saving of 26 EUR compared to three individual sessions.
Intensive day — 350 €
6 hours · In person · Nantes area
We shoot together in the morning, develop in the afternoon, and look at the results together before the end of the day. The fastest way to improve. You leave with a developed roll, scans, and a clear sense of what to work on next.
Film stock and chemistry at cost. Travel within Loire-Atlantique included. Limited availability — two days per month.
All prices exclude VAT. Payment by bank transfer or PayPal before the session.
What to expect
- Sessions run on time and end on time. If we go over, that is my choice, not your problem.
- I will tell you what I honestly think — about the work, the camera, the approach. Not what you want to hear.
- I do not use Zoom or Teams. Sessions run on WhatsApp or Telegram, your choice.
- You do not need to be advanced. You need to be serious about it.
- If film photography turns out not to be the right medium for you, I will tell you that too.
Book a session
Send me a short email — where you are in your film practice, what you are trying to figure out, and which session format interests you. I will reply within 48 hours and we will find a time.
