I don’t travel the way guidebooks suggest. I take wrong turns, stop too long in places no one has heard of, and have been known to spend an entire afternoon in a town I only planned to pass through. I consider this a feature rather than a fault.
Most of what’s here is close to home — Brittany, the Loire, Northumberland, Paris at odd hours — with occasional longer departures: China with the orchestra, Lourdes in the summer heat, Lisbon with a roll of film I’d been saving. Each place gets whatever time it deserves, and the photographs reflect that. Some are planned. Most aren’t.
I’m less interested in the famous view than in what’s happening just off to the side of it. If that sounds like your kind of travelling, you’re in the right place.
